Alan Dix


Alan Dix is a Bradford-based theatre maker. He has produced many touringand site specific theatrical productions ranging in scale from the intimate to the epic, most recently My Last Car (2011 – 2012) with Warwick Arts Centre and the Cultural Olympiad; and Bike Story 2014), commissioned by the Yorkshire Festival/Grand Depart.

Jenny Harris

Creative Producer

Jenny has over 15 years’ experience of producing, curating and commissioning multi-disciplinary arts programmes and festivals, including FuseLeeds contemporary music festival; imove – Yorkshire’s Cultural Olympiad programme for 2012; Interrogate Festival 2012 (Darlington), Leeds 2023 and Phrased & Confused.

Em Whitfield Brooks

Choral Director

One of the UK’s leading vocal trainers, Em Whitfield–Brooks has led many community choirs including Ellacapella, Global Voices for Stephen Joseph Theatre, Hull Freedom Chorus and Helmsley Arts Centre Community Choir. She is founder director of Ryedale Festival Community Opera, which produced mainly new operas for 14 years reaching many thousands of people.

Mike Kenny

Writer & Librettist

Mike Kenny is based in York and was one of the Independent on Sunday’s Top Ten Living UK Playwrights. His plays are performed regularly throughout the UK and all over the world and he is best known for his prolific output of plays for young people. Mike’s 2008 adaptation of the Railway Children for York Theatre Royal won an Olivier award.

Shanaz Gulzar

Digital Design

Shanaz Gulzar has developed digital content for many companies and artists including Kully Thiarai, Leicester Curve, the National Coal Mining Museum, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Southbank Centre.

Paula Horton

Paula is delighted to be back in the Calder Valley working with 509 Arts on Community Engagement for Landlines and Watermarks, having spent over ten years living in Hebden Bridge.   Paula’s work has taken her into mainstream theatre, film and television and community theatre as an Actor, Director; Dramaturge, Youth Theatre Director and Panel Teacher of Dance and Drama. She is Associate Artist with Blaize and has directed,  written or led projects with many schools and community groups. Paula is expanding her horizons internationally, with a writing residency in Sweden in 2017 where she is researching and developing a new piece of innovative dance theatre, which will be the first production by her own company in partnership with Blaize and ilDance, Sweden.

Richard Taylor


Richard Taylor was previously composer at residence at West Yorkshire Playhouse, and has won two UK Theatre Award for his music theatre composition. He has worked in the West End, for the Royal Opera House and for the BBC, composed for canals and communities and lives in south Yorkshire.

Fabric Lenny

Digital Design

For artist Fabric Lenny everything starts with drawing.  It’s a way for him to propagate ideas, clarify thinking and make discoveries. These ‘starts’ can be doodles, observed drawings, or just a series of marks which offer up hidden images, suggest unusual shapes and concepts, or unlock the door to new imagery and fresh ways of working, leading to live projection, sculpture, animation, installation, illustration and lots of fun.


Matthew Davison

Web Design

Matthew is an ex-Bradford School of Art student, now web designer.


Katie Kimber


Katie comes from a background in web project management and Marketing, she comes with a diverse set of skills to complement the Landlines and Watermarks project. Katie’s work centres around the Calder Valley, managing The Watermark Flood Fund Calderdale and FloodAware App and EA flood warden for the Luddendenfoot area. A perfect fit for a project about how the Calder Valley is shaped by water.
